Even people who purchase a drone franchise business in Australia, most of them won’t survive, such as National Drones. You have to remember, it’s something that is not in high demand so work can be slow, especially support is not spending marketing budget to assist you and they keep reselling a region.
You are better to purchase a drone franchise with Jim’s Photography and Drones or Real Photography and Drones. They have their bread and butter in photography, that’s their base work. There is always more demand for ground photography and video.
Another method for you to survive when you starting out any business even a drone business, you need other incomes to support your drone business. This income could be working a second job, Uber driver or work on other business you are passionate about. For me, I have a web design and marketing business plus I recently started a winery tours business in 2019.
Marketing For Drone Work
To get drone work you have to spend money on digital marketing such as Google Ads or SEO (search engine optimisation). Pay Per Click campaign can be very expensive, but you are lucky at the moment as they cost you around $2.5 per click. If you put $10 a day as your budget, this can work out to around $300 per month budget. Now, if you cannot land one job, you just lost $300. And if you do cheap like say you are only doing $100 per job, you will never make it.
If you are paying someone to set up and manage Pay Per Click campaign, the costs will be more or if you are paying an agency to perform SEO, that’s a lot more.
I personally charge my clients at $400 to set up a PPC campaign and $500 per month on SEO services. Imagine if you spend that money and get no work at all? SEO will take a lot of work and time to get anywhere against the competition that will have a bigger budget than you.
I suggest you start learning digital marketing, starting a drone business doesn’t mean you buy good equipment and you get jobs. You need to spend more and more to get in work. I wear a lot of hats with all the businesses I start. I learn a lot during my drone business journey, including learning how to edit and colour correct – use transitions and animation. Post-production plays a major role in my drone photography business. If you look at some drone pilots work, you can see they do not learn how to do this and it can look bad and you cannot charge a higher rate.
